Today, a bugler played and a salute was fired while a young wife gripped
the hand of their small child trying to hold back the tears of sorrow. As
the sounds of Taps echoed across the hillside, the loneliness in her heart

She flinched at the crack of the rifles as each round was fired, knowing
that she was left alone. As she left the funeral, the tears of her heart
began to fill her eyes and as she began to softly sob the widow's tears
she wondered how she was going to survive. Suddenly as if the child knew, he
reached out and took his Mommy's hand and spoke in that small child
voice "Mommy please don't cry."

Today, she reached the mountain that we spoke of so many months ago. It
is time that the proud sorority of sisters known as military wives join
hands, support and protect each other. Like those before you, and those that
will replace you, be strong. Look out for one another. Protect the worried
and the "wounded" from the prying public eyes. We will get through this. We
must get through this. We can never forget that the person we love, the one
that gives our lives meaning, is doing what they are doing for us.

There are those that do not understand, others that do not care, and
still more that will never know the hardships nor the joys of being a military
wife. No one, and we mean NO ONE can take that title away from you. You
are special. You are the reason that they go to the mountain, climb the
mountain, and protect the mountain. It is a place that few can go, for
many do not have the strength, the courage, nor the fortitude it takes to
accomplish what your spouse is doing. It is because of their sacrifices
that we are a free nation. Together we will make it through this, we will
stand united, hands joined, fingers entwined with one voice, one heart, and
one goal. We are a strong, special breed of woman - we are Military Wives.
